The Tocqueville Society at United Way of Collier and the Keys (UWCK) brings together our community’s most generous philanthropists – leaders who share a deep commitment to creating lasting, meaningful impact for our ALICE families and neighbors across Collier and Monroe Counties. Members invest $10,000 or more annually to strengthen the programs and partnerships that move our community forward.

Our local Tocqueville Society reflects a long-standing national tradition of recognizing extraordinary leadership in giving. The national Tocqueville Society was established in 1981 and named for 19th-century French diplomat Alexis de Tocqueville, who admired the uniquely American spirit of voluntary action and collective effort for the common good. His writings celebrated the power of communities coming together to support one another – an ideal that continues to guide UWCK’s mission today.

The Tocqueville Society is designed to deepen members’ understanding of our work, strengthen their connection to meaningful community solutions, and honor the profound difference their philanthropy makes for local families.

“We support United Way of Collier and the Keys because this community has given so much to our family and their work delivers measurable results for the ALICE families who keep our community strong. Through the Tocqueville Society, we can invest in solutions that create real stability and long-term impact.”

Why United Way?

Why United Way?

Today, more families in Collier and Monroe Counties are struggling to make ends meet than at any point in recent memory. Neighbors who never imagined needing help are now facing rising housing costs, unexpected expenses from natural disasters, and wages that simply can’t keep pace with our region’s increasingly high cost of living. And for ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) families—those working hard yet still unable to afford the basics— the burden is becoming overwhelming.

At United Way of Collier and the Keys, stepping into the gap is what we do. Whether it’s connecting families to critical resources, strengthening financial security, health, and education programs, or investing in disaster resiliency, our work ensures that people have what they need not just to get by, but to move toward long-term stability.

This year alone, we have helped thousands of families access nutritious food, supported youth programs that close opportunity gaps, expanded financial coaching and tax assistance for working households, and advanced community resiliency efforts.

We ensure that donor dollars stay right here at home, directly supporting the programs and partners improving lives in Collier and Monroe Counties. Our volunteers, committees, and community leaders help evaluate every partner agency and internal initiative we invest in—so your generosity is used wisely, efficiently, and transparently.
