On November 13, 2023, Tiffani Mensch, President and CEO, Renee Beckner, Philanthropy Manager and Ashley Jones, Vice President of Community Impact, attended the Help A Diabetic Child (HADC), a nonprofit focused on aiding children and families managing diabetes, signature fundraiser, “A Cause Before the Cure: Celebrating a Night of Possibilities.” The event occurred at Grey Oaks Country Club, 2400 Grey Oaks Drive North.

“It is an honor to be part of an event that directly supports children and families grappling with Type 1 diabetes. The commitment of HADC to making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by this condition is truly commendable, said Ashley Jones.”

The evening’s highlight was a speech by Tom Karlya, Senior Vice President of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation and the mind behind www.DiabetesDad.org. He is known as “Diabetes Dad,” Karlya is celebrated for his international lectures and influential writings. His achievements include legislative advocacy for diabetes diagnosis awareness and collaboration with the Beyond Type 1 Foundation, earning him multiple Telly Awards.

Tom’s personal connection to diabetes stems from his daughter Kaitlyn’s diagnosis in 1992 and his son Rob’s in 2009. Tami Balavage, President and Co-founder of HADC, anticipates Karlya’s insights on diabetes warning signs, awareness efforts, and research advancements.

“Hearing Tom Karlya speak was enlightening. His personal journey and professional achievements in the field of diabetes research and advocacy provided invaluable insights and deepened my understanding of the challenges faced by those living with diabetes,” said Ashley Jones.
